Terms of Service

Version 2026-08-16
1. Who we are
pocketchange (the "Service") is a neighborhood marketplace that connects verified young workers (ages 13–17), adult workers (18+), their parents or guardians, and homeowners for small local jobs. By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Role-specific agreement
- Young Workers (13–17). You confirm your age is accurate, that a parent or guardian has linked and approved your account, and that you will only accept jobs your parent/guardian approves.
- Parents/Guardians. You confirm you are 18+ and legally responsible for the linked Young Worker, and you consent to their participation, job approvals, and payouts routed through your connected payout account.
- Homeowners. You confirm you are 18+, that job descriptions and addresses are accurate, and that you will provide a safe, lawful work environment with no unsupervised hazardous tasks.
3. Eligibility & accounts
- Young Workers must be at least 13 and, while under 18, have an active approved parent or guardian link.
- Parents/Guardians must be at least 18 years old and legally responsible for the linked Young Worker.
- Homeowners must be at least 18 years old and reside in a verified pocketchange neighborhood.
- One account per person. Duplicate, shared, resold, or impersonated accounts are prohibited.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of your registration details, including your date of birth, and for keeping your credentials secure.
- Identity and phone verification may be required. Falsified identity documents result in permanent removal.
4. Parental consent & supervision
Young Workers may only accept jobs after their linked Parent/Guardian has approved the specific job request. Parents remain responsible for their child's safety, including transportation to and from job sites, and for compliance with all applicable youth labor laws in their state. Parents may revoke approval, pause, or close a Young Worker account at any time. pocketchange may restrict a minor account whenever guardian linkage lapses.
5. Minor-account protections
- A minor's exact address, contact details, and precise location are withheld until a job is assigned, and are shared only as needed to complete that job.
- Adults may not contact a minor outside the job conversation, request private contact details, or move a job off-platform.
- Adults may not request that a minor be alone with them in a private indoor space, provide alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, vaping products, firearms, or medication, or ask a minor to drive.
- Any sexualized, romantic, grooming, or coercive communication toward a minor results in immediate permanent removal and, where required, referral to authorities.
6. Jobs & conduct
- Homeowners must accurately describe the task, location, expected duration, and any hazards.
- Certain tasks are prohibited (see the Safety Center), including roof work, ladders above single-story height, power tools beyond permitted equipment, chemical handling, and any task barred by youth labor rules.
- Users agree not to harass, discriminate against, threaten, or misrepresent themselves to other users.
- Job details that materially change after posting must be re-approved; a Young Worker may decline changed work without penalty.
- pocketchange may remove jobs, cancel a booking, or restrict an account at its discretion for safety reasons.
7. Payments, fees & refunds
Payment is authorized when a job is posted and captured after the Homeowner marks the job complete. The Young Worker receives the full advertised job pay. pocketchange charges the Homeowner a 10% service fee plus a payment processing fee. Payouts for minors route through the linked Parent/Guardian's connected payout account. Cancellations follow the published cancellation policy; disputed or cancelled jobs may be voided, partially captured, or refunded. All amounts are calculated and enforced on our servers — client-supplied totals are ignored.
8. Rewards, XP & levels
- XP, levels, badges, milestone bonuses, and discount tokens are promotional features with no cash value and are not transferable, sellable, or redeemable for cash.
- Rewards are granted only for genuine completed jobs, are calculated server-side, and are granted once per job.
- Manufacturing jobs, self-dealing, circular payments, or coordinating with another user to generate rewards is prohibited.
- We may withdraw, correct, or void XP, levels, and reward tokens obtained from refunded, disputed, cancelled, fraudulent, or manipulated jobs. Corrections are recorded in an internal audit log.
- Discounts are funded from our own service fee and never reduce what a worker is paid.
9. Anti-fraud & anti-abuse
- Fake jobs and collusion. Posting jobs that are not real work, or arranging jobs with a known party solely to move money or farm rewards, is prohibited.
- Payment abuse. Marking work complete that did not happen, withholding completion to extract free labor, or paying partly off-platform to avoid fees is prohibited.
- Refund abuse. Refund requests must be made in good faith. Repeated refunds after completed work may result in restrictions.
- Chargebacks. Contact Support before filing a chargeback. Filing a chargeback for work that was delivered is a breach of these Terms; we may recover the disputed amount, associated fees, and suspend the account. Legitimate disputes remain your right.
- Reviews. Reviews must reflect a real job. Retaliatory, purchased, or coerced reviews may be removed.
- Automation. Scraping, bots, credential sharing, and attempts to bypass rate limits, verification, or safety controls are prohibited.
- We may record internal risk signals for review by our team. Such signals are review notes, not determinations of wrongdoing, and are never shown to other users.
10. Safety reports & disputes
Report safety concerns immediately through the Safety Center or Support. We may reopen a job conversation for evidence, hold funds during review, restrict accounts pending investigation, and cooperate with law enforcement. Safety decisions are made at our discretion with the protection of minors as the priority. Job-quality and payment disagreements go through Support first; you agree to participate in good faith and provide accurate evidence.
11. Privacy & communications
Job conversations occur on-platform and may be reviewed by our safety team when a report is filed. Do not share personally identifying information about a minor, and do not use another user's information for any purpose beyond completing the job. See the Privacy Policy for details on what we collect and why.
12. Prohibited use
You may not use the Service to solicit off-platform transactions, share personally identifying information about minors, circumvent safety, verification, or payment controls, launder money, or engage in unlawful activity.
13. Independent status
pocketchange does not employ workers, does not supervise jobs, and is not a party to the agreement between a Homeowner and a Worker or their Parent/Guardian. We are a technology platform providing discovery, approval, payment, and safety tooling.
14. Enforcement
Depending on severity we may warn, remove content, reverse rewards, withhold or reverse payments, limit features, suspend, or permanently remove an account. Serious safety violations result in immediate permanent removal without prior warning.
15. Termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that we believe pose a safety risk. You may close your account at any time from Account Settings. Obligations already incurred — payment for completed work, dispute cooperation, and reward reversals — survive termination.
16. Disclaimers & limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is". pocketchange does not employ Young Workers and is not a party to job agreements between Homeowners and Young Workers or their Parents/Guardians. To the maximum extent permitted by law, pocketchange is not liable for indirect or consequential damages.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. Material changes are announced in-app and require your acceptance of the current version before you continue using the Service. Each acceptance is recorded with the version, timestamp, and request details.
